By now, most everyone knows that online search has changed.

Now users go online and “ASK” AI (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok, Claude, etc.) for what they are looking for and AI answers their question by showing only those businesses it finds that:

  1. Answers the specific question

  2. Share quality and relevant content consistently on their website and on multiple other sources AI and Google trust

  3. Optimizes that content to the different platforms

  4. Share content consistently as the questions change.

How you get to be the recommended “source” is the key to get more new clients by making it easy for AI to recommend you.

Here’s what you can do to make that happen…

1. Find out who AI already trusts in your category

Before you decide what content you need to create and share, go to ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google, and ask the questions your buyers would ask. Then, make a note of the sources underneath each answer and write them down.

The source mix changes based on your industry and which AI your buyers use, so build a shortlist of the publications, sites, and platforms that keep showing up for your category.

2. Use PR as your biggest lever

Publishing articles on high-authority trusted sites makes up 29% of what AI reads,

So before you decide what PR article to publish, make sure every piece gives AI four things AI can "see" and cite:

  1. A clear description about what you do, who you help, and what you've achieved.

  2. Proof, such as a number or a named result.

  3. Your brand name written out in full.

  4. Context about what your business does.

3. Make your listings, awards, and reviews count

Relevant industry bodies, associations, awards, directories, and review platforms account for 25% of what AI reads, while reviews add another 4%. Share these on your website, Social Media Profiles and within your content to enhance the trust factor that Google, AI and your audience looks for when doing their research.

4. Make every social media posts count

Even though Social Media only counts for approximately about 4% of what AI reads, it still counts. Make sure you share your content on as many platforms as you can using different formats to make it easy for AI and your ideal client to "see" it.

Keep in mind that everything you write should stand on its own. It’s OK to make specific, valuable claims, as long as your brand is clearly named, and everything is backed up with proof. Generic, irrelevant content doesn’t mean anything to your readers or to AI.

5. Use your content to answer the questions your potential buyers are already asking

Tune into the conversations your buyers are already having and answer their questions with quality, relevant content.

6. Tell the same story everywhere

AI uses different sources to form an impression of your brand. If each of them describes you differently, you weaken your brand reputation.

So keep your description, your claims, and your proof consistent across your website, press releases, social media, and your GBP/Maps listing. It sounds like common sense, but it's very easy to forget to keep the information AI, Google and your ideal clients find online about you and your business showing consistently everywhere.

Your website is just one source among many, so it's time to go and earn the others.

Yes tthere is a lot you need to consider and do in order to be "seen" and recommended by Google and AI.

So, if you need help when trying to get AI to "see" and recommend your business, here’s an easy way to get this done consistently.
